How to Walk in High Heels and even Make It Look Comfortable
High heels look great on their own, and can make any outfit complete while showing off your personality and sense of style. Unfortunately, many women stay away from wearing heels very often because of the common complaint that they hurt your feet. This can definitely be true, especially if you’re on your feet quite a bit, walking a lot, etc. High heels were mostly designed with fashion in mind, not necessarily function. However, you can wear heels and still be comfortable, getting the best of both worlds, with just a few little tips and tricks.
Check out some of our favorite solutions, and try them the next time you put on your favorite pair of high heels.
1.PADDING
Many problems arise from wearing high heels when there is not enough padding on the shoe itself. If there isn’t enough at the heel, your soles could be suffering by the end of the day, especially if you walk a lot. Alternatively, if there isn’t much padding around the toe of the shoe, it can throw you off balance, and your toes and feet will be in pain. Many high heels have pointed toes to begin with, so this is ‘double trouble.’ Try looking for an insole with enough comfortable padding all around, or try purchasing one that is sleek enough to hide in your shoe and not take away from the overall style. Also leather insoles work great because they reduce slipping.
2. STRETCH IT OUT
If you do have a pair of heels that are too tight, and have your toes and heels pinched by the end of the day, there are a few quick tricks to try:
-Place a bag of water in each heel and leave them in the freezer overnight
-OR....
-Put on a pair of socks, and then your heels, and turn on a blow dryer for a few minutes against the parts that usually rub your skin
3. MAKE SURE THE BOTTOM SOLES ARE SLIP PROOF
A lot of brand new shoes need breaking into, so don’t be afraid to scuff up the soles, this will prevent slippage and keep you grounded. Take a piece of sandpaper and rough up the bottom soles. Also, be sure the heel caps are in good condition if not take them to the cobbler and replace them. These tips should help to ensure you have a smooth stride. Another great tip is spraying the bottom of your shoes with hairspray, this way it provides a tacky surface for walking.
4. YOUR WALKING TECHNIQUE
-Walk Heel to toe, to ensure you don’t put all the pressure in the ball of your feet. Keep your strides looking natural.
-Take small steps and take your time. I know it’s tempting to want to look like Carrie Bradshaw skipping down the street, but heels weren’t made for running, that’s why we have sneakers! Also walking slowly gives everyone time to notice your rad kicks and shows confidence. When you need a little break lean back and take the pressure off the front of your foot.
5. POSTURE
Standing up straight is key; not only will it keep you balanced but will make you look taller! So empower your inner supermodel self and don’t slouch!
6. ROTATE YOUR SHOES
Alternate your footwear; switching it up is not only great for your style but also for your feet. Go for variations in heel height, if you wore a stiletto one-day maybe switch to a more comfortable kitten heel the next.
7. TO AVOID BLISTERS
-Rub lip balm on the back of your heels or any areas that rub up against the shoe. This will prevent chaffing and sores.
These are just a few suggestions to get you started but surely there are many more tips and tricks when it comes to wearing high heels - enough to allow you to actually enjoy them comfortably without compromising on style or fashion. In no time, you’ll be able to wear heels as often as you want, without the constant discomfort! Thanks for reading and Happy Shopping.
